Reducing Energy Intensity: How Lighting Solutions Are Transforming the Market

In recent years, Kazakhstan has shown significant changes in energy consumption and efficiency, directly linked to the development of the lighting industry.

Growth in Energy Consumption:

• Over the past five years, total energy consumption in the country has increased by 12%. The most noticeable growth was in the residential sector (+33%) and industrial sector (+30%).

Reduction in Energy Intensity:

• Since 2008, the energy intensity of Kazakhstan's GDP has decreased by 21.6%, indicating improved energy efficiency in the economy.

• Between 2015 and 2022, industrial sector energy intensity was reduced by 39%, leading to savings of 105 billion tenge.

Government Initiatives:

• In 2022, legislative amendments were introduced to improve the state energy registry, the energy audit market, and budget sector monitoring. The concept of "energy-efficient government procurement" was introduced to enhance energy use efficiency in the public sector.
