New lighting standards for cities in Kazakhstan: aesthetics, safety and energy efficiency

The Union of Builders of Kazakhstan held a panel session on energy efficiency and innovative lighting at the INTERLIGHT CENTRAL ASIA + Smart Sec & Building exhibition

ASTANA, Kazakhstan – November 7, 2024 – The Union of Builders of Kazakhstan successfully organized a panel session on energy efficiency and innovative lighting solutions within the framework of the INTERLIGHT CENTRAL ASIA + Smart Sec & Building exhibition. The event was held on November 7 from 12:30 to 14:30 at the Expo IEC in Astana.

The session was opened by Elnar Baziken, Deputy General Director of NIPI Astanagenplan LLP, who stressed the importance of lighting in creating an attractive and safe urban environment.

"The most important thing is to create visual comfort in the city. We adhere to a more favorable night atmosphere and warm light. It is important not to "over-highlight" buildings. Of course, where there is light, there will be safety. But it is important to take into account the biorhythms of nature and people, and provide soft lighting that will decorate our city. Today, there has been a lot of research that a variety of lighting is unfavorable for birds and other wildlife in cities. Astana as a whole is developing correctly as a city. But we need to get away from the cold light," the speaker said.

The moderator of the partner session was Abzal Samanov, founder of the Nurzher company and partner of the Union of Builders of Kazakhstan.

"According to today's event, it is possible to judge where the industry is moving. If earlier the whole market was thinking about how to arrange square meters, now business and the government are thinking about how to make housing and the environment more comfortable. Most of the industry representatives and players in the field of comfortable lighting are concentrated in the Union and I think we will continue to work in this direction. The information of our speakers today deserves to be known not only by the whole city, but also by the country," the moderator noted.

Among the speakers were leading experts in the field of lighting technologies and partners of the Union of Builders of Kazakhstan, such companies as QR Systems, the nable, LEOLED, Voltage KZ, LAMPER, GQ-Contract and GQ-System.

The main conclusions of the panel session with the participation of lighting experts:

RGB lighting in the capital: Experts do not recommend using multi-colored RGB lighting for architectural objects in Astana. It creates visual noise, distracts citizens and drivers, and increases the load on energy consumption due to the need to maintain different colors and effects. RGB backlight can cause discomfort to the eyes, negatively affect vision and is prone to technical failures, which makes lighting unstable and unpredictable.

The need for architectural lighting standards: Astana and the cities of Kazakhstan need standards for architectural lighting that will help create a unified and recognizable visual style of the city. This approach will emphasize the uniqueness of the capital and add harmony to the urban environment. By adhering to these standards, it is possible not only to improve the aesthetic perception of the space, but also to create the basis for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions. This will make lighting an integral part of sustainable urban infrastructure.

Attention to street lighting: Street lighting requires close attention from developers and government agencies, as it affects not only the urban appearance, but also the nature and well-being of citizens. It is important to implement smart lighting solutions and take care of the use of natural resources that are being spent uncontrollably. Accounting and optimization of consumed resources will help maintain the ecological balance and increase the efficiency of energy use.
